One Village Solo Parent Family Support
Aim: To support the many single-parent families across Tauranga who often feel isolated and exhausted, by offering support families or couples who will build relationship, help with practical needs, and enjoy meals and outings together with them - encouraging a village-like approach to family.
Project Leader: Emma Walker
Date: Spring 2018 - Spring 2019 (minimum)
How it will work: Single-parent families will register for support, as will the support families or couples (a married couple young or old, with or without children). 1-2 supporting families/couples will commit their time to one solo parent family so relationships are built. Supporting families/couples would ‘take this family in’ by committing time to help with practical tasks such as property maintenance, handyman jobs, babysitting for time out or going to small group, as well as sharing meals and doing activities together. Funding would be used for each combined family group to do one big outing per year such as camping, visiting an animal park, white water rafting, or going to the hot pools.
Volunteers Needed:
+ 3 families or couples who are willing to offer support
Once our volunteer target is met, the funding needed is:
$600 for annual family group outings
How we're tracking...
This section will be updated to show how we are tracking with volunteer pledges as we progress. Once the target is reached, the plan will be reviewed and funding will be released for the project to go ahead.
